Swimming plays a large part in life at PPS. Each class from Year 1 upwards swims once a week as part of their curriculum. We use Europa Pools in Birkenhead for these lessons and they are led by qualified swimming teachers. We are proud to have achieved Dolphin awards for each of our classes, celebrating a high level of achievement in these lessons. Children also work towards awards for strokes and distances and receive badges and certificates when these are achieved.
Our curriculum is further complemented and enriched by a range of out of school clubs which allow the children an element of personal choice in their development programme. These include dance, karate, netball, football, cross country, cricket and rounders club.

Successful school teams

As members of the Independent Schools Association the children also have the opportunity to compete with other ISA Schools both at regional and national level for swimming, athletics, football, cross-country running, rounders, kwik cricket and netball.

Each year we attend the ISA North football tournament and have been very successful, being crowned as North England ISA Champions on two occasions. As such we have been invited to the National finals finishing in third place in the National ISA tournament on both occasions. A feat of which we are extremely proud.

Our netball team play regular fixtures and tournaments throughout the Autumn and Spring terms. In 2014-15 they were particularly successful and managed to win the Inter-School tournament at Leasowe Recreation Centre against schools from around the North West of England. Then they managed to go a step further by becoming the ISA North of England High Five Netball Champions. This was a first for the school and we were extremely proud of them!

We also have an extremely successful school swimming team that has had many successful galas, we are proud that we have been the Birkenhead Area and also the Wirral Peninsula swimming champions nine times since 2006. In this time we have also been Merseyside Champions twice
Prenton Prep School’s swimming team also qualified for the finals of the ESSA relay finals in 2008, 2009, 2010 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016. This encompasses all schools in England and we were extremely proud of our achievements, especially as in 2010 the squadron team managed a second place in their final! In 2015 we were very proud to finish fourth in this national competition!

On top of this our water polo team enter the annual ISA North competitions. They have achieved superb levels of success becoming ISA North of England champions twice and medalling on four other occasions.

Our School Cross-Country team take part in regular races for Wirral schools and also compete in the ISA North competition and we are very proud of all of our competitors and have achieved numerous top ten finishes in races with more than a hundred entrants! In recent years we have also been proud to have several runners qualify for the ISA National Cross-Country finals through the regional heats.

Three of our pupils also participated in the schools’ biathlon championships recently and all qualified from the regional heats for the semi-finals for all schools in North and Midlands. We were very proud of their achievements and especially of our national finalist who managed a fifth place finish!

Finally we were extremely proud to receive a special award from ISA. This was presented at our Speech night in July 2010 by the National Sports co-ordinator for the asscociation and was given to the school to recognise our outstanding achievements in swimming. We regularly take swimmers to the national finals currently based at the Olympic Pool in London!

We are extremely proud of all the children who represent our school and thank you all for your efforts!
