Sport at Prenton
At Prenton Preparatory School, we recognise the vital role sport plays in promoting health, wellbeing, teamwork and resilience. Every child has regular P.E. lessons as part of the curriculum, with a wide variety of opportunities to take part in both individual and team sports.
Facilities and Curriculum
From Year 1 onwards, children have weekly swimming lessons at Europa Pools led by qualified instructors. Pupils work towards distance and stroke awards, earning certificates and badges along the way. Swimming remains a cornerstone of sport at Prenton, and many pupils go on to represent the school at ISA competitions.
Our pupils also benefit from access to excellent local facilities, including Prenton Tennis Club, The Oval Sports Centre and Wirral Tennis Centre. In addition, our Astro sports pitch on site provides an outstanding space for football, netball, hockey and a range of other activities.
Sport in Action
We are proud of our pupils’ commitment and achievements across a range of disciplines. Recent highlights include:
-
2025 – Sofia Howard (Year 4) qualified for the ISA National Swimming Finals at the North Gala.
-
2024 – Our U11 team secured 2nd place in the ISA Water Polo Finals.
-
Regular participation in ISA and Wirral cross-country events, as well as ISA water polo (U9 & U11), basketball, football and athletics.
Alongside competitive sport, our curriculum is enriched with a wide choice of after-school clubs, giving children the chance to develop their interests and skills further. These include football, netball, karate, dance, cricket, rounders and cross-country.
A Tradition of Sporting Success
Prenton Prep has a proud history of sporting achievement, with memorable highlights including:
-
Twice being crowned ISA North of England Football Champions and securing third place at the National Finals.
-
Winning the ISA North High Five Netball Championship, alongside numerous inter-school netball tournament successes.

This tradition of success continues today, inspiring our pupils to take pride in their participation, teamwork and sporting excellence.
